DIGITAL X-RAYS

Digital X-rays are a quick and safe way to obtain high quality images of your mouth so we can make accurate diagnoses of oral conditions and recommend the best treatment plan for you. Our modern digital X-ray technology uses very minimal radiation compared to traditional film X-rays. The standard recommendation is to receive one or two sets of X-rays every year, but we may require additional images in the case of a dental emergency, or if we discover an oral condition that needs to be evaluated further.

ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Today, oral cancer is not just something that tobacco users should be concerned with. Oral cancer lesions can manifest as a result of other risk factors and underlying health issues. In the beginning stages, oral cancer can be painless and go unnoticed, making early detection important. Coming in for your dental visits twice a year can substantially increase a successful diagnosis. This is why oral cancer screenings are an important part of your routine dental check-up exams. If your dentist detects anything out of the ordinary, we can evaluate it further with a biopsy procedure. A biopsy can be done easily in our office and sent out to a lab for pathology results.

If any of the following signs or symptoms are present for more than 14 days, you should see your dentist immediately. These symptoms include:

  • An ulcer or sore in your mouth that is not healing
  • Red or white patches on the gums, tongue or lining of your mouth
  • A lump in your mouth, neck, throat or jaw
  • Hoarse voice

DENTAL CLEANINGS

Regular teeth cleanings and check up appointments are the foundation of preventive dental care. Dental cleanings focus on treating the gum tissues surrounding your teeth and/or implants. After completing your dental exam, we will thoroughly cleanse your teeth and gums by removing any plaque, tartar build up, and minor staining. Consistent professional cleanings along with diligent home care are key for preventing gum disease and keeping your smile bright and healthy! We recommend coming in for routine dental exams and cleanings every six months for most patients.

PERIODONTAL CARE

In cases where early gum disease progresses to more advanced gum disease, a deep dental cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, may be needed to treat your gums back to health. The treatment involves going below the gum line to remove plaque and tartar from the surfaces of the teeth. Bacteria reside in this plaque and tartar deep underneath your gums, which can cause chronic inflammation and breakdown of the surrounding gum tissues. Removing the source of inflammation allows your gums to heal and prevents the gum disease from progressing. After your deep cleaning, it is crucial to maintain proper oral hygiene at home to prevent the recurrence of gum disease and keep up with maintenance teeth cleanings with your hygienist.

If gum disease is left untreated, it could lead to further inflammation, gum recession, bone loss, and even tooth loss. Gum disease can also exacerbate other medical conditions you have. If you notice your gums are constantly inflamed or bleed easily, you have persistent bad breath, sensitive teeth, or changes in your bite, you may have gum disease that needs to be treated with a deep dental cleaning. Get in touch with our office today to be evaluated and get your oral health back on a healthy path.

SEALANTS

Dental sealants are a great way to protect teeth from cavities, especially in children and teenagers. Dental sealants are resin coatings that are applied onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They act as a barrier by filling in the natural grooves and pits on the surfaces of teeth. As a result, the tooth surface becomes smoother, making it harder for bacteria and food to adhere and cause cavities. Once the sealants are applied, they are long-lasting and can be reapplied as needed. The entire treatment process is quick, painless, and non-invasive.

FLUORIDE TREATMENT

Fluoride treatment is a simple yet extremely effective way to prevent cavities in both children and adults. It is also beneficial for individuals with a high risk of cavities, dry mouth, and teeth sensitivity. Fluoride treatment can be easily incorporated as part of your routine dental care. After your teeth cleaning, we apply a fluoride varnish or gel to help remineralize and strengthen your enamel, making it more resistant to acids that cause cavities. It can also stop or slow down the progression of existing cavities.
